Veteran Appreciation Night

Local veterans enjoyed free Golden Corral restaurant buffet meals recently.

This year’s annual Military Appreciation Night was Mon., Nov. 13.

Every year near or on Veterans Day, Golden Corral provides a free meal to veterans and active military members. More than 5.1 million free meals were provided to veterans the last 16 years. The restaurant chain has also raised over 12.9 million dollars through raffles for disabled veterans.

JROTC cadets from George Washington High School and Chatham High School attended and served at the event.

“It was a very rewarding community project; we got to see the impact on them and hear their stories,” said Capt. Eddie Perdue, JROTC teacher, CHS.

The following CHS students assisted in serving the Veterans that evening: Lindsey Stafford, Moniqual Coles, Charles Wilson, Alexandra Bracken, Emile Chaney, Domonique Jennings, Malia Hodnett, Shannon Fuller, Bryanna Bushey, Elisa Miller, and Hannah Dawson. The students bussed tables, assisted waitresses, and helped with washing dishes. Some of the cadets cleared trash. Some greeted the Veterans as they entered the restaurant.
