Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the next proposed secretary of health and human services, is proposing new plans to improve the health and vitality of the American people over the course of Donald Trump’s presidential term.
Vaccination policy is the issue RFK Jr. has addressed the most, and it is the most controversial. He believes the American people should be more cautious and educated in their decision to vaccinate themselves or their children.
“If vaccines are working for somebody, I’m not going to take them away,” RFK Jr. said.
“People ought to have a choice, and that choice ought to be informed by the best information. So, I’m going to make sure scientific safety studies and efficacy are out there, and people can make individual assessments about whether that product is going to be good for them.”
The CDC is concerned that RFK Jr’s agenda will convince many people to opt out of vaccinations, which could lead to the spread of illness and disease across the United States.
“Immunization currently prevents 3.5 million to 5 million deaths every year from diseases like diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, influenza, and measles,” the World Health Organization states.
Food additives and chemicals, such as food dyes, are likely to be banned in the upcoming years. Unnatural ingredients and ultra-processing raise health issues and obesity, which can be seen by comparing the U.S. to other developed countries. Over processed school lunches will be replaced with healthier options.
RFK Jr. would like to end incurable disease in the United States- especially autism- because he believes the cause is explainable.
“They get the shot, that night they have a fever of a hundred and three, they go to sleep, and three months later their brain is gone,” RFK Jr. said. “This is a holocaust, what this is doing to our country.”
There was a lot of backlash from this statement because the cause of autism is unknown and there is no provable link between vaccines and autism. The comparison of this illness to the Holocaust is very extreme and a radical take on the issue.
“FDA’s war on public health is about to end,” RFK Jr. said.
As Secretary of HHS, RFK Jr. will be overseeing the FDA. He wishes to take away its power since he believes the administration is corrupt. He is mostly skeptical of FDA approved products and treatments.
Fluoride in drinking water may be banned in upcoming years. This would ultimately be a State and local decision, but he could influence these governing bodies to lean towards taking fluoride away.
“Fluoride is an industrial waste associated with arthritis, bone fractures, bone cancer, IQ loss, neurodevelopmental disorders, and thyroid disease,” RFK Jr. said.
Every person in the United States will be affected with these radical changes, with some that will be highly beneficial, and other aspects that may be detrimental.
Students at Chatham High School will be affected by these policies as well.
“I think healthier school lunches are a good idea, but convincing people to not get vaccinated is a bad idea and will have negative consequences,” Susannah Wilkinson, senior, said.
“People are going to be misled by statements that are not scientifically proven and health in our country will get worse, not better,” Julian Wright, senior, said.
