JROTC Annual Awards Cerenony

The Chatham High School Army JROTC Cavalier Battalion held their annual awards ceremony  on May 10.

The ceremony is conducted by the JROTC instructors and cadet leadership.

The purpose behind the ceremony is to recognize all of the hard work, dedication, and participation that the cadets in the program have done throughout the year. Cadets had to meet certain criteria to receive national awards such as: GPA, class rank, and leadership potential.

Representatives from different veteran associations came to present awards to the recipients. Another event that took place at the ceremony is the Changing of Command. This is the process of the previous Battalion Commander leaving and the new commander being promoted to take command.

Here is a brief list of cadets who received national awards:

C/SGT Hannah Dawson was awarded the Military Officers Association of America award, Superior Cadet for LET III; she was the top female for Cadet Challenge.

C/1LT Devon Williams received the Retired Enlisted Association award and was Promoted to Cadet Major. He will serve as the Battalion Executive Officer for the 2018-19 school year.

C/2LT Bryanna Bushey received the Military Order of the Purple Heart award, the Military Order of World Wars award, and was promoted to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel. She will be the Battalion Commander for the 2018-19 school year.

C/CSM Justin Harrington was awarded the Order of Daedalions medal.

C/SGT Michael Peckinpaugh was awarded the American Legion Post 325 Scholastic Excellence medal.

C/CPL Elijah Estes received the Marine Corps League award.

C/LTC Nick Mitchell received the Association of the United States Army award and the United States Army Recruiting Command award and was the top male for the Cadet Challenge physical fitness test.
