Boys soccer vs. Appomattox

Chatham High School’s Cavaliers defeated the Appomattox Raiders 1-0 on May 9th.

Freshman Adam Afify scored his first high school goal, from outside of the 18 yard box. The play started when Caleb Dunevant, freshman, and Kenny Clark, sophomore, fought together to win the ball from an Appomattox defender. The ball popped out to Adam’s feet, and he shot the ball in the right upper 90 of the goal, over the Appomattox goalie’s head.

Jeremy Sloane, senior, had a shut out game with over twenty saves. Jeremy could not have done it without the defense, with standout performances from Tyriq Calloway, junior, Nick Johnson, senior, Manuel Diaz, senior, and Sam Faison, senior.

The midfield was held down by Josh Harris, junior, Ethan Hardy, sophomore, Gavin Parrish, senior, and Ethan Dunevant, senior.

While Chatham’s start to the season wasn’t the best, they are hoping to use the momentum of the win against the 3rd seed in the county, which is Appomattox, to take on the first seed, Nelson County, on May 11th for senior night.
