Chatham High School athletics are back on top this week.

Matthew Arnold won District Golfer of the Year by shooting an 80 at this year’s district tournament. He shot the lowest score of everyone competing.

The CHS golf team hosted the district tournament at Tuscarora Country Club this year. The team finished second overall, losing to Appomattox 356-339. Jacob Holley shot an 81, Tanner Merricks shot a 97, and Austin Vicks shot a 98.

They Lady Cavaliers Volleyball team is back on their winning track in week six.

The Junior Varsity Volleyball team and the Varsity Volleyball team played at Tunstall Sept. 24.

J.V. lost both sets: 21-25, 25-27. Varsity also lost three out of four sets to Tunstall: 25-22, 23-25, 16-25, 23-25.

Both volleyball teams beat Martinsville at home Sept. 26.

J.V. won both sets: 25-7, 25-8. Varsity dominated all three sets: 25-6, 25-4, 25-16.

On Sept. 27 the Lady Cavs traveled to Altavista to bring home a win.

J.V. won winning both their games: 27-25, 25-12. Varsity had a clean sweep in all three sets: 26-24, 25-21, 25-21.

Cross Country competed on Wednesday, Sept. 26. Savannah Carlsen finished fourth overall and set a new personal record, 23:33. Mary Augusta Paris, Bestabe Galindo, and Patience Turner finished in the top 15 for the girls. Caleb Wright finished second and also set a new personal record of 17:21. The meet was halted because of the storm that came in.
