Date Ideas

When you live in a small Southern town, creative dating are crucial.

Georgia Theatres in Danville is a popular, although expensive, date night. Afterwards, a couple has plenty of dining options. To save money, go to the matinee in the afternoon, and then out to an early dinner afterwards.

Bubba’s Ice cream is a great place to go get ice cream. You can sit down at an outdoor picnic table and talk about life while enjoying a sundae or banana split.

The Dan River Trail is a great date spot. A couple can get some exercise, enjoy nature, and get to know each other.  You could bring a picnic or snack to enjoy.  The trail also has safe spots near the river to fish, if you’re interested in fishing .

Riverside Lanes is a great place to go bowling together. Even if you don’t know how to bowl, you could have a great experience. There are food and drinks to purchase there, too.

There are romantic restaurants to celebrate special occasions for a date night. Downtown Danville now offers several options: Cotton, Bright Leaf Bistro, and Me’s Burgers. On Riverside is Joe and Mimma’s; their cozy booths provide lots of privacy.

Enjoy some time shopping together at Coleman Marketplace or the Mall. Both offer restaurants for a quick, inexpensive meal.

Great arcade game places that are about a hour away are always fun. Competitive couples can challenge each other to see who wins the most tickets or prizes.

Picnics are a great way to spend time with each other on a nice day. You can buy delicious pimento cheese or chicken salad or deli meats from Midtown Market and then go to Ballou Park with a blanket.

Fair dates are popular also. Win prizes for each other, ride the Ferris wheel, and eat fair food like funnel cakes, corn dogs, and fried pickles to make memories.

This time of year, buy a pumpkin from Haymore Garden Center on Franklin Turnpike/41. Carve them together at home and cook popcorn and watch a scary movie afterwards.

Couples could also go to one of the haunted houses open this time of year.

If you are both interested in sports, take your date to an Averett University football or basketball game. For NFL games, spend some big money and travel to Charlotte to see the Carolina Panthers or Washington to see the Washington Redskins.

An inexpensive but memorable date would be to cook hot dogs and s’mores over an open fire at home or a friend’s house. Sit around the warmth and look at the brilliant harvest moon.
