Cavalier Athletics Week 17 Summary

The Cavs brought in many wins the last week of school.

In girls’ track, Anasia Harrell, the district champion, placed third in the 100 meter dash, first in the 100 meter hurdles, and fourth in the high jump. Charity Wilson placed second in the 200 meter dash and fifth in the high jump. Caroline Broomell placed fifth in the 800 meter. In the 4×4, Bailey Calhoun, Arianna Petty, Andresia Conley, and Charity Wilson all placed second. In the 4×8, CHS placed third. Emerson Scollo placed eighth in the discus.

For district boys’ track, Caleb Wright set a new school record in the New River Invitational track meet. He ran in 4:43.44 seconds, which beat Mason Walton’s old record by nine seconds. Peyton McCoy placed seventh in the 400 meter run. Carter Boone placed third in the 800 meter run. Caleb Wright, the district champ, placed first in the 1600 meter run. In the 300 meter hurdles, Tanner Boone placed seventh, Peyton McCoy placed sixth in the long jump and fifth in the triple. In discus, Seth Barker placed eighth. In shot put, Rhamir Coles placed fifth with a 46 personal best.

In baseball, the boys’ had three end of season games. They won 10-0 against Altavista. The starting and winning pitcher was Logan Nichols. The set-up man was Andrew Potojecki and the closer was Brady Owens. The hitter were Andrew Potojecki with a  3 for 4, a double, and one RBI. Matthew Arnold had a 2 for 3 with two RBI’s. Grant Reynolds had one it and one RBI. Luke Martin had two hits and one RBI.

The Dogwood District Championship Tournament had three games. In the first game, the Cavs beat Gretna with a score of 11-1 in five innings. The winning pitcher was Andrew Potojecki who had five strikes and four hits in five innings. Graham Dalton had a 2 for 2 and five RBI’s. Matthew Arnold had a 3 for 3 and two RBI’s. Bray Adkins had a 2 for 3 and two RBI’s. Grant Reynolds had a 3 for 3. Hunter Adkins and Andrew Potojecki had one RBI each.

At the championship game, Chatham beat Dan River with a score of 14-4 in six innings. The winning pitcher was Matthew Arnold with four strikes in four innings. Brady Owens was the closer. Graham Dalton had a 2 for 4 and two RBI’s. Grant Reynolds had three runs and three RBI’s. Matthew Arnold had a 3 for 3 and three RBI’s. Bray Adkins had a 2 for 4 and two RBI’s. Grayson Reed had a 3 for 3 and 3 RBI’s. The Cavs won the first round in the Region Tournament.

Girls’ soccer played Altavista and won 4-0. Blaine Adkerson scored two goals while Elisabeth Hardy scored the other two.

The boys’ soccer team played Altavista and won 2-1. Josh Harris scored the only two goals.

Softball beat Altavista with a 7-1 score. Jahna Waters pitched a whole game with five striks, one run, and five hits in seven innings. Sage Crider had three hits, Taylor Lester had two hits, Keslee Hylton had two hits, Haleigh Simms had a double, Trista Walker had one RBI, Alex Gauldin had one hit, and Caroline Vicks had two runs and one home run.
