Over the years, Game of Thrones was one of the most popular shows on television. This is my definitive ranking of the seasons and how they influenced the media.

8. Season 8 was the final season and also the most controversial one. The final season was under a lot of pressure to make a perfect ending that everyone would be satisfied with. With this in mind, the writers rushed the ending and caused a major uproar. The highlights of the season are the Battle of Winterfell and the amazing dialogue in the second episode.

7. Season 7 had so much potential, but there were many weak storylines. Since the season only had seven episodes instead of ten, the writers rushed out storylines that would usually take many seasons to finish. The best parts of the season were the loot train attack, the death of Littlefinger, and Lena Heady’s amazing acting.

6. Season 5 had its ups and downs, but in the end it was not as strong as it could have been. The storyline with Dorne was not as exciting as it was in the books, and it upsetted fans that they made this decision. One of the most controversial deaths on television was in the fifth season, with Shireen Baratheon being burned alive by her parents. The most important episode is Hardhome, this episode showed viewers the full power of the White Walkers. This episode showed one of the best battles in the show.

5. Season 2 really showed that the budget increased since the first season. This season showed that the characters had a lot more to offer and the actors as well. The Battle of Blackwater really showed viewers the first real battle and that the show can go all out. King Joffrey did not hold back on cruelty and sadism. It was also the season that introduced us to Brienne and Ygritte.

4. Season 1 shows that television can go all the way without holding back. It introduced the epic fantasy world of Westeros. This season introduced all of the main characters and the storylines and lies. Season 1 had such a major death that it showed viewers that the show meant business.

3. Season 6 proved that the show still was one of the best on television after season 5 aired. Season 6 included The Battle of the Bastards, which is easily the best battle in the series. Seeing the Starks take back Winterfell was one of the most heartfelt scenes in the entire series. We got to see Sansa take revenge on Ramsay. In the season finale, there were so many scenes that made this episode one of the best of the show. Cersei blew up the Sept of Baelor, they revealed Jon’s parentage, and Arya avenges the Red Wedding.

2. Season 3 had the most popular but controversial episode of the entire season. The Red Wedding really put the show on the map. The wedding held betrayal and the murders of the members of House Stark. The politics of this season really upped the ranking because of the dialogue it produced. The reveal of Jaime’s heroism made this season so popular.

1. Season 4 is the best season of the show. From Joffrey’s murder to Tyrion’s trial, this season had so many epic scenes. The season picks up after the Red Wedding, showing that the Lannisters are the ones in power. After Tyrion is accused of murdering Joffrey, they held a trial in which Tyrion has an award-winning performance. The Battle of Castle Black was an amazing fight between two sides who are trying to keep their people alive. This battle had many deaths of fan- favorites. The season finale had so many epic scenes that it made this season number one on this list.
