Spring Sports Conditioning Begins

Soccer, softball, baseball, and track conditioning for girls and boys recently began for the 2020 spring season.

Varsity soccer girls condition Monday-Thursday, from 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM. Athletes are  either inside working on speed using timed runs through the hallways, upper body exercises;  or outside working on stamina and control of the ball as weather permits. They are in the CHS weight room on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tryouts start in the middle of February and games start in the beginning of March.

Varsity soccer boys condition with the cross-country coach and rotate from inside to weight room or outside as weather permits. They do cross-country workouts such as 1000 reps which involves 100x sit-ups, burpees, squats, push-ups, lunges, jumping jacks, high knees, bicycle crunches, mountain climbers, and planks throughout the week. Tryouts start in the middle of February and games begin in early March.

Varsity and JV baseball condition on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 PM-5:30 PM in the weight room or on the baseball field. They practice pitching, running, and catching. Tryouts begin Feb. 24.

Varsity and JV softball players condition Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 PM-5:30 PM on the field as weather permits or inside. They work on drills and running until tryouts start on Feb. 24. Varsity’s first game is on March 10 and JV’s  on March 16.

Track boys and girls practice on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Mondays they do timed runs 0f 500, 400, 300, 200, and 100 meters; if not completed in time they must redo it with 1.5 x the amount of time to finish. Times are different for girls and boys, depending on the week and if it is distance or sprinters. For field athletes after the timed run, they do long jumps, triple jumps, or high jumps. Ones who only throw, workout in the weight room then practice throwing shot put or discus. Wednesdays consist of 8 200 meter runs while Fridays are 2x of 300, 200, and 100 meter runs. Thursdays are meet days for those who attend and complete practice days.

By the end of February, all teams finish tryouts and team selections are made.
