The 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show

The LIV Super Bowl hosted their Pepsi halftime show at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens recently.

Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin all performed at the show. It was hailed as a Latin American pride performance in celebration of the Latino immigrants in America.

Jennifer’s 11-year-old daughter, Emme Muniz, also sang “Let’s Get Loud,” by Gloria Estefan. She was placed in a prop representing a cage during the performance. It is rumored that this stood for the Hispanic children who  have been caged temporarily for their safety at detention centers since 2014. The public has been outraged since learning of the caging during the Trump administration.

They also played Shakira and Jennifer’s hit singles including: Shakira’s “She Wolf” and “Hips Don’t Lie” and Jennifer’s “Jenny From the Block” and “On the Floor.”

The half-time show was controversial. An anonymous CHS Junior said, “I enjoyed the choices of songs they performed.”

Another CHS Junior, Brent Kerley, said, “Pitbull should have been present during the performance, I was disappointed.”

The performance showed of many colorful and extravagant costumes,  however, many believed the outfits to be inappropriate.

“I believe that the show was inappropriate because there were many kids watching and the outfits were too provocative,” said Sally Haley, senior.

David Percario, a Chatham High Senior said “I think Jennifer”s outfit was too much, and she didn’t dress for her age”

Miss Rebecca Hodnett, a teacher at Chatham High School, said “I think that the performance brought cultural diversity to the forefront’ I especially liked when Jennifer Lopez brought her daughter on stage and had a mother-daughter moment.”
