Lady Cavs Soccer team beats Nelson County

The Varsity Girls Soccer team defeated Nelson County with only nine players versus Nelson county’s eleven players at Nelson.

The Cavs went into the game with nine out of their 16 players; many of the seniors were missing because of the upcoming prom. The players that they had were Delaney Haymore, Ava Norris, Kevanna Gibson, Carys Johnston Destiny Brown, Haley Murugasan, Alette Kegerries, and Quanadra Tunstall.

“Going into the game, I felt like we were gone lose; I had no confidence at all, ” said Johnston.

“We knew it was going be a hard game, ” said Haymore.

“I felt like we were going to lose because we only had nine players,” said Gibson.

Nelson scored two goals on the Cavs in the first few minutes of the game. The Cavs heads dropped very quick, but they fought hard to come back into the game off of a goal scored by Haymore. Ending the first half, the Cavs were down 2-1. Opening second half after a few possessions with no scoring, Norris scored a goal to tie the game 2-2.  Following that goal Haymore scored again to put the Cavs up 3-2.

The Lady Cavs held Nelson County scoreless to get the victory.

“I was very excited; I thought that was the turning point in the game for us. I knew the game was ours after those goals,” said Haymore.

“Those goals gave us momentum, “said Johnston.

“I felt happy and proud that we won with only nine players,” said Gibson.

Goalie Tunstall had six saves out of the eight shots at goal.

The Lady Cavs are now undefeated in the Dogwood District which places them in the top spot.
