Chatham vs Nelson

Chatham Lady Cavs varsity softball team won their battle against Nelson 2-0.

The team play great defense.

Cora Liggon, sophomore, helped with the win by hitting a single, putting players in a scoring position. She also excelled  in the circle by striking out many batters.

“Even with doing very well against Nelson we still think that we  have room for improvement,” said Bralynn Patterson, junior. “We have to continue communicating better and just trust ourselves more,” said Patterson.

The team was emotional down to the last second.

“The game did not go as planned, but we did come out with the win,” said sophomore Hedi Tosh. “Previous game we went into extra innings; this time we didn’t play to our potential.”

“I was very excited; especially since we had a lot of beef with Nelson,” said Patterson, referring to the long-standing feud with the Nelson County team.

“The entire team worked hard and fought to achieve the end goal which was to win,” said Liggon.

Throughout the game there was amazing energy from the whole team.

The team was lackadaisical at first. “We sat back and took it easy and soon realized we needed to up our game and score some runs,” said Tosh.

The next contest is against Appomattox.

“We hope to play stronger and better to win the fifth season game. As of now Chatham is first in their Dogwood District and hope to stay there and work together as a team and work hard at practice to build a better base as a team,” said Liggons.

The Lady Cavs shared a prayer prior to the competition against Nelson.
