Danville Police Identify Suspect in Shooting Near School

One person has been charged following a shooting near Johnson Elementary School on Sunday.

Jonathan Lamont Warren, 40, has been charged with a second offense of carrying a concealed weapon, a felony charge. Warren was previously charged with carrying a concealed weapon in April 2020.

Around 6:20 p.m. on Sun., April 23, officers arrived at the basketball courts on the corner of Melrose Avenue and Northmont Boulevard. Officers heard shots firing on arrival as people fled.

One person was treated for a leg injury that occurred while fleeing the scene. At this time, officers believe no one was hit by gunfire.

Johnson Elementary School was not affected by the incident, and resumed normal operations the following day.
