Education Tips from Teachers to Students

Teachers care a lot about their students’ futures and about what students make of themselves.

Teachers made mistakes in school, and they don’t want their students to repeat the same mistakes they did.

“I wish I had put in more effort to make my grades better than what they were when I was in high school,” Mrs. Sandra Whitehead, guidance counselor administrative assistant, said.

“In school I wish I was more outgoing, more social, and more involved in activities,” Mr. Gary Poindexter, science department, said.

When it comes to studying, students have trouble finding the right way to study that is actually effective for them. This is the main cause of students not being prepared for tests and not getting good grades on text and exams.

“Studying is more about quality than quantity; students should set aside time, find a place free of distraction. Setting aside their electronics is a really effective way to focus on studying. Make sure you’re studying for a sensible amount of time, take breaks in between to eat, drink, and nap, then continue to study,” Poindexter said.

“When studying notes, students should read them, write them, and recite them. Pick out the most important parts of your notes and then reading over them multiple times is very effective,” Mrs. Brandy Durham, art teacher,  said.

There are a lot of students who don’t try their best in school or who struggle  in some subjects, and this can be a really big problem among students.

“One big issue students have in school, is getting to class on time because all they like to do is socialize in the hallway and hang out in the bathroom. What they need to do to fix this is prioritize what’s more important: socializing or grades,” Whitehead said.

“Most of my students have problems following instructions in class because they are used to doing their own thing. When I stand up in front of the class and start to talk and give instructions, my students tune me out and start thinking about other things. So when it comes to doing the assignment, then they start asking a lot of questions,” Durham said.

High school seniors are getting ready to get out in the world and go to college or get a good job. Being a senior is the most important part in high school; students need to maintain their grades and start looking into colleges they want to go to.

“As a senior in high school, there isn’t enough time to be slacking around and waiting till last minute to to prepare for college; students should study immediately so they don’t get behind in their college classes,” Durham said.

” Seniors should start college applications early, don’t slack, and maintain their grades,” Whitehead said.
