Life as a teacher is very hard; sometimes it’s confusing to know why people choose that profession.
Teachers at our school seem to love their jobs, but they have different reasons for this.
Relationships with students and fellow faculty members are big reasons teachers said they loved their jobs.
“I love hanging out with my students.” Ms. Allie Reid, math department, said. Several of her best friends also teach side by side with her in the math wing. They are even her bridesmaids in her upcoming wedding. “Teaching is not like a job some days [because I like it so much].”
Teachers like CHS, but freely admit that they would leave if the situation was right.
” I guess I would leave if the money was right,” Reid said.
“I love Chatham but never say never,” Mrs. Wendy Kapp said, English department.
When schools were closed for COVID both new and old teachers were affected.
“I was still learning how to teach,” Ms. Reid said. “It was very lonely.”
Mrs. Kapp wasn’t a new teacher at Chatham, at the time,“ I didn’t like it [Covid] at all,” she said.
Being a teacher requires a lot of motivation, which varies from teacher to teacher.
“I want to have a positive impact on my students,” Kapp said, and “I want to be responsible for something they’ve learned.”
