Students have distinct opinions on what makes a good teacher.
Mrs. Kapp, English teacher at CHS, says a teacher’s dedication to his or her work is important. Teachers need to have a “profound desire to pass on knowledge from one generation to another.” Good teachers continuously strive to get better at their craft.
Spanish teacher, Mrs. Gery thinks that a good teacher loves what they do and the subject they teach. Good teachers should be enthusiastic about teaching. But a good teacher also needs to be flexible and organized.
Mr. Tate and Coach Banks think a good teacher requires patience and understanding. Teachers need to realize not all students learn the same, and not all students want to. So understanding the situation and being patient is highly important.
Madison and Zakiyah, two CHS students, agreed that a teacher’s attitude can determine whether they are a good teacher or not. Also the effort they put into the class is important to determine this. “No effort is obvious and doesn’t make anyone want to work harder.
Being a good teacher takes a lot of work and time. Without the desire to be a good teacher, there wouldn’t be any good teachers.
