The Boy and the Heron, one of Studio Ghibli’s recent works that was released in 2023, was a wonderful watch.
Produced by the studio’s co-founder, Joe Hizashi, The Boy and the Heron follows Mahito, a young boy who lost his mother to a tragic war.
When Mahito moves to a new estate with his father and step-mother, peculiar events take place. Mahito’s step-mother disappears into a strange tower that stands tall at the edge of their land.
A creepy Heron leads Mahito in the depths of the tower, promising that both his mother and step-mother are inside.
The film was beautiful with an array of colors, visuals, and so many birds.
Watching this movie felt like being sucked in to a new world, just like Mahito was.
Mahito felt closure after seeing his mother in another world, and the bond with his step-mother was strengthened.
I recommend watching this when you get a bit of free time; you won’t regret it!
Opportunities for watching this film may be found on Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and Max.
