Many students were distraught about completing schoolwork during multiple snow days.
Teachers handed out packets of classwork to students before they left because the Pittsylvania County Schools were expecting inclement weather.
Superintendent Mark Jones expressed concerned about the number of missing school days; he did not want to pull makeup days from spring break. By requiring students and teachers to work from home, those counted as full school days.
Students had a hard time trying to understand why teachers distributed work.
“I can understand why they do it because if we did not have the work they would have to use one of our bank days,” Kayla Showalter, sophomore, said.
There were multiple power outages that caused a lack of computer and Internet access,
“What if you did not have internet access to email a teacher and was stuck on a question and needed help, so what you would you do?” Kennedy Hanks, senior, said, “I would have been very frustrated; I just would not do the work and wait till I come back. I do not want to do the work and do it completely wrong.
“We have also learned that some teacher’s plan the work, but do not follow up,” Kennedy said. “We all said that it makes things more difficult and makes us feel like we wasted our time doing the work.”
