The rise of artificial intelligence and its use in education is leaving an impression on students.
AI (artificial intelligence) is more available over the past few years with ever-growing capabilities.
The use of AI is popular in the education system which has lead to differing views about it.
“I don’t necessarily like it,” Addysin Martin, sophomore, said. “I think you should have your own opinions and thoughts. Learning how to think and come up with ideas is very important.”
“I feel like it helps for some, but it’s more harmful,” Chelsea Young, sophomore, said. “People abuse its power and could lose their jobs over it.”
Constance White, sophomore, had a different stance. “I don’t think it’s abnormal. It’s not something scary like people think it is. It’s basically just Google made a little easier.”
Young agreed. “The world is becoming more and more dependent on it, so people should get used to it,” she said.
One of the more popular uses of AI is for writing essays.
“I think that it is not smart because … a teacher could find out that you used AI to do the work for you, and it is better that you try to do your own work so you can get better and learn from your mistakes,” Hannah Ross, sophomore, said.
The use of AI is growing. It may become a normalized tool used in the education system in the near future.
“I don’t think it should be because then no one will think, and they will just use AI,” Ross said.
Young disagreed. “The world is becoming more and more dependent on it, so people should get used to it,” she said.
