Spring break is coming up, but not everyone can afford an expensive vacation.
Some students are creative and design spring break on a budget.
“My favorite thing to do over spring break is go out on a picnic with my family,” Annabeth Shadrick, sophomore, said. “My brother, parents, and I always go out to our backyard with our dogs and have lunch during spring break. We usually just eat some sandwiches and fruit: small stuff that we sometimes also feed to the dogs. We have a nice view from our backyard, so it’s a good way to spend time with my family without going somewhere crowded with strangers.”
“I always love to bake over spring break,” Chelsea Young, sophomore, said. “My mom goes out and buys me a bunch of ingredients, and I make her desserts. They’re usually just simple things like brownies and cookies, but it’s nice to be able to take my time. When I bake during a regular school week, I always feel rushed because I know that I have other things that I need to do.”
“I’ve always liked to go on walks during spring break,” Hannah Ross, sophomore, said. “The weather can be a problem sometimes, but when it’s clear and it isn’t too hot or cold, I drive up to Riverwalk in Danville to just walk and listen to music. It’s a nice break from all the stress that comes with school.”
“Spring break is one of the best times to spend time with friends, so that’s what I always do,” Addysin Martin, sophomore, said. “We don’t always go anywhere, we just meet up at someone’s house and hang out. It’s very peaceful to be able to hang out with my friends in a comfortable environment and not be surrounded by other people.”
“I use spring break as a time to catch up on my favorite shows,” Constance White, sophomore, said. “Spring break gives me a bunch of free time, and I don’t really have a way to go places. Being able to relax and watch the shows that I like fills up my time and is also enjoyable.”
