People often don’t think about it, but students have to travel from school to other places for sports, academic events, and field trips.
This travel sometimes add richness to the lives of kids who don’t get out of our county often.
“I went to an aquarium in Greensboro when I was in the Gifted Program,” Triston Jones, sophomore, said. “It was very fun and I enjoyed the aquarium, but I did not enjoy riding on a bus with 30 other kids.”
“In elementary school, we went to Jamestown for a field trip, and we toured the entire town.” Jaxon McGhee, sophomore, said.
Students travel to other schools for sports and other competitions.
“During drill season for JROTC, we often travel to other schools like Dan River, Gretna, Tunstall, and even George Washington High at one point for competitions,” Elijah Tingle, junior, said. “We always have fun, eat lunch there, and enjoy competing with other schools.”
“We travel for track meets to other schools like Virginia High, Glenvar High, and Patrick County High.” McGhee said, “Usually on the way to the meet, it’ll be quiet, and on the way back to CHS, we’ll talk, and if the school is far away, we’ll get food somewhere nearby.”
Academic events are always fun for students, especially when it is farther away.
“In elementary school, we traveled to Richmond for a Beta Convention, and we stayed almost a week at a really nice hotel,” Carly Sims, sophomore, said.
