The majority of teens today drink caffeine in abundance yet remain completely oblivious to the effects the stimulant has on their body.
According to the National Library of Medicine, excessive caffeine intake can lead to a variety of health issues, such as cardiovascular disease, vitamin deficiencies, and dietary issues. The full extent of the effects of caffeine on teenagers isn’t yet known.
Immediate side effects can include nervousness, irritability, nausea, sleep impairment, and gastric ulcers–although, these vary from person to person. Body type, weight, and age play a factor in how one might be affected by large amounts.
The effects of caffeine aren’t all bad. In moderation, the stimulant can be a helpful agent in helping get through the day.
Positive effects of caffeine intake include increased alertness, improved concentration, enhanced mood, and increased athletic function.
