Students want more options in free school beverages.
“I think it’s ridiculous that bottled water costs money,” Hannah Ross, sophomore, said. “It’s a drink that is pretty much a necessity and it’s healthy. Why should schools be charging students for it [at lunch]?”
“The milk that our school has is nasty,” Addysin Martin, sophomore, said. “It’s always almost expired when they give it out, and it just has a rotten taste to it. I think that if they could just give us some better milk, like a different brand, then kids wouldn’t complain as much about it.”
“I think schools should offer free juice [at lunch],” Chelsea Young, sophomore, said. “It gives students more options when it comes to drinks while remaining healthy to students. The sweet taste of it and the sugar can also help wake students up for their classes.”
Some believe that there shouldn’t be more options.
“I don’t think there would be any point in having other drinks,” Constance White, sophomore, said. “Most students bring their own drinks to school. This gives them the freedom to drink whatever they want, regardless of whether or not it’s deemed healthy by the school. If most people don’t drink the options already given, why give them more when they bring their own? I just think it’d be useless. I don’t see people not bringing their own drinks just because the school offers some new options that people most likely enjoy anyway.”
