Students endure academic pressure and mental health issues that can damage their well being.
“In my opinion, I think students should have mental health days so they won’t be burnt out and tired,” Victoria Stevens, sophomore, said. “School takes a toll on kids by stressing them out and overworking them. If students were to take a mental health day, it would benefit them by giving them a better head space. I call it a mental health day sitting at home in bed sleeping or spending time with my family because I feel like school takes away from that too.”
“I think students should have a mental health day because the bullying could affect them in various ways,” Lenzy Crews, sophomore, said. ” The teachers are what makes school the worst. Having a day to yourself will have kids well-rested and come the next day with a positive attitude. I define a mental health day as staying home and taking time off responsibilities for yourself to help unburden stress.”
“We need days to relieve stress and relax, too,” Javion Webb, freshman, said. ” I think school takes a toll on students by only caring about the work being turned in and not how they are doing. If students got the chance to take a day off, they’d be more energized to get through the day. Having a mental day, in my opinion, is relaxing at home doing the thing you love the most.”
“If adults can have mental health days, why can’t students take a day when needed?” Mrs. Elizabeth Alvis, math teacher, said. “Students are learning how to balance out school and their homelife responsibilities; this may be harder for students who haven’t been taught how to deal with it all.”
