Some research says that children shouldn’t be given a phone until they’re older.
“Technology can affect the user’s mental health and also increase the risk of obesity, anxiety, and depression,” The Sleep Foundation website said. The blue light from screens can ruin your sleeping pattern, and it can also cause eye strain. Phones should be put away at night.”
“The time you’re spending on a screen is the time you could be using to be more active like being outdoors or going to exercise,” Sydney Yarborough, senior, said.
Ignoring the cell phone is hard for some.
“The fear of missing out can lead to depression because you’re constantly seeing your friends do all of these fun things while you’re sitting at home doing nothing but on your screen,” Alyssa Harrison, senior, said.
“Looking at a screen too much can interfere with the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle, leading to insomnia and fatigue,” Jaylynn McConnell, freshman, said.
The Sleep Foundation suggests “leaving your phone away from your bed at night and keep the TV off to get better sleep. Or even set screen time on your phone for a certain amount of time, and it will cut off at night.”
