Some students struggle with peer pressure during high school.
”Peer pressure affects me in different ways, like my attitude, the way I act around my friends, and sometimes when engaging in risky behaviors,” anonymous student one, said.
“I think there is a positive and negative outcome on peer pressure; for example, when a student’s peers encourage them to be responsible, they’re more likely to be so,” Gracie Hyler, junior, said.
” I believe peer pressure affects students so much because it is the desire to fit in with everyone,” anonymous student two, said. “Nobody wants to be the odd ball out.”
”The act of peer pressure can have both long-term and short-term consequences, outside of school and in school,” Amber Blevins said. “Such as suspension in school, or being grounded by your parents.”
There are strategies to help students cope with peer pressure.
“One strategy is to surround yourself with positive influences and create a friend group who shares the same similar values,” Caleb Tucker, sophomore, said.
”Set some boundaries for yourself and seek support from counselors,” Ryann Anderson, junior, said.
”Peer pressure is a powerful force that can impact a student’s decisions in a positive or negative way,” Chase Hillman, junior, said.
