Kamala Harris and Donald Trump clashed in a high-stakes showdown at this week’s presidential debate, sparring over issues and plans the American people need to be made aware of as the election draws near.
ABC’s David Muir and Linsey Davis were very biased during the debate, fact checking and questioning every statement Trump had made while being in favor of Harris. Both the moderators and Harris were baiting Trump with questions and statements– and most of the time he took the bait.
Trump called out the weak leadership of the United States under current President Joe Biden. He emphasized the fact that the Biden administration has not been proactive in the last three and a half years.
“We have a President who doesn’t know he’s alive,” Trump said.
Harris focused on her plan to build the ‘Opportunity Economy’ that will help families, small businesses, and the working class. She also touched on women’s reproductive rights and war in foreign countries– mostly Ukraine and Israel.
“The government, and Donald Trump, certainly should not be telling a woman what to do with her body,” Harris said.
Trump shared his economic plans to increase domestic production of fossil fuels and manufacturing in the United States, while also charging a high tariff on other countries. He plans to build up the borders and make negotiations with world superpowers such as Russia and China to help end international conflicts.
Both candidates were vicious and defensive. It was more of a fight than a conversation to discuss their plans for America’s survival and future or what they will do to uplift the American people. It feels as if there was too much conversation about the character of the other candidate, and not enough of their presidential plans and policies.
The muted microphone rule was also very controversial. Harris did not want to comply, even though it was agreed on previously. She threatened to withdraw, but she ultimately complied.
Harris wore a very classic and feminine look: a tailored black power suit with a cream blouse, pearl earrings, and black stilettos. She also had her hair curled with brown eyeshadow and a nude lipstick. This gave her an elegant, powerful, but soft impression. She wore a golden American flag pin.
Trump wore a tailored navy blue suit with a bright red tie and a colorful flag pin. This is his signature look. He appeared powerful. His patriotic appearance makes him seem trustworthy and assertive to viewers.
There was no audience and no notes; it lasted 90 minutes, and the microphones were muted when the other person was speaking. The questions were not supposed to be known before, but there are speculations that Harris knew what would be asked before the debate.
The debate between vice president candidates J.D. Vance and Tim Walz will be hosted October 1 by CBS. Both Trump and Harris would like a follow-up debate, but it is unknown how soon it will happen.
I think Harris won with preparedness, but Trump provided more of his plans to help the American people.
