Students do not like homework.
They don’t believe that doing work at home is helpful.
“Homework shouldn’t be given out,” Addely Guillen, freshman, said. “In many ways, homework does help students learn and practice, but also, why should students have to learn something they have already learned at school, just at home? If a teacher was to give out homework, they shouldn’t take it for a grade but instead just give it to them for practice, so if the student does it maybe they could get some credit.”
“Teachers shouldn’t pass out homework,” Dabney Hicks, a freshman, said. “Homework sheets shouldn’t be given out. The only homework that students should have is the work that they didn’t finish in that class. Many students don’t agree that homework is helpful, so they just use artificial intelligence to help with the work, or they don’t do it at all. If teachers want to give out homework, doing it should be a choice. So if a student chooses to complete it, it’s going to be extra credit on another graded class assignment.”
Some students disagree with these opinions.
“Teachers should give out homework depending on the students,” Roselynn Richard, a freshman, said. “Some students don’t understand topics in class easily, so teachers should give out homework to the students who want it to practice, so they can learn more about it for the next graded assignments in that class. Many students also do not have time after school for homework, making it hard to turn it in on time, causing them to get a bad grade.”
