Memories play an important role in our lives.
Some people have impactful memories with their family.
“My favorite memory from my childhood is my brothers and I throwing clay rocks at each other,” Brooke Deak, sophomore, said. “Having all my brothers there together makes it my favorite, because we are all distant now, and one of them has passed away. It makes me happy and reminds me that I have people who love and watch over me.”
“One of my favorite memories is eating dinner with my family, especially when my dad came home from work,” Sheri Williams, French teacher, said. “My mom was a wonderful cook so the food was always delicious and also my family was together; it was one of the only times during the day we were together. I do have a deep connection with that memory because I love food and eating with other people is important; you usually do that with people you’re really close with. I don’t think of it very often because it was so far in the past, but it still is meaningful to me.”
Others have influential memories with sports.
“Winning the State Championship for softball in my senior year of high school is probably my favorite memory,” Allie Scott, math teacher, said. “I think because it took a lot of hard work, and it was our first championship that we won in all of my years of high school, I felt really proud about it. It’s something I bring up to my team often while coaching. It’s not something that’s on my mind everyday, but when I do think about it, it’s to tell my team about it so they can learn from it and get better.”
Some have uplifting memories from experiencing new things.
“I guess you could say my favorite childhood memory was getting to go to public school in Chatham, meeting all my new friends, and seeing new faces after a long time in private school,” Larry Ramey, sophomore said. “It was exciting yet scary in their own ways. It’s my favorite memory because it’s when a new, better chapter of my life started, and I got to experience new things with new people. I’m very connected to this memory because it’s like being reborn; a whole new world was given to me and I get to live it. I think about it everyday. I’m also reminded of it with pictures, sayings and other little things of the past.”
