Opinions are mixed about the required policy of storing bookbags in student lockers.
“I’m not sure, I kinda like that we don’t have them because it makes everything less packed,” Meagan Yeatts, senior said. “I think most kids make it a big deal to forget their stuff. I believe that the reason for the bookbag rule is valid because it’s less likely for someone to sneak something in class.”
Others are bothered by the rule because it can make students feel rushed.
“It’s annoying having to rush to my locker at least once a day; especially for those people who have lockers at the ends of the school but classes on the other side,” Neal Barker, sophomore said. “I have seen multiple people not have their Chromebook chargers or something to drink for class because it was in their locker. If they did it due to the fear of an attack or illegal substances simply install metal detectors or make everyone use clear book bags.”
“It’s more convenient but time consuming all at once,” Jaiden Lipford, senior said. “Students now are late because they try to learn how to open it again as well as looking for their stuff. Though I do believe the reason for the bookbag rule is relevant to our school because students are less likely to bring weapons into class, but I don’t think it’s valid because of the inconveniences.”
It’s easier to get from class to class if students are able to carry their book bags,” Kenarie Glass-Alvarado, sophomore said. “Students will most likely feel less rushed and crowded while going to class, and they won’t have to worry about what all they need from their locker.”
