Students have very exciting events planned for Veteran’s Day.
There is a new school club called the “Veterans Project” founded by Dr. Rebecca Hodnett, history department, and Mrs. Scharlotte Cassell, assistant principal.
“Our Veterans Club was set up to bridge gaps between veterans and students,” Hodnett said. “It is a mentor and mentee program so that students can hear the real world experiences of the veterans’ service.
“The club is important to our students, but also to our veterans because they deserve to be recognized and appreciated. Through shared stories of these veterans it will truly open students’ eyes to the dedication and resilience these individuals have shown to protect our country,” Hodnett said. “This club is so beneficial to our students; not only will they be able to experience a verbal history of a veterans service, they will also learn valuable communication skills that will serve them for years to come.zzz’
The Veterans Project will host a program on Tues., Nov. 11, that will include songs played from the band, poems recited from guest speakers, a spoken piece by First Sergeant Kurtz, presentation of colors from our JROTC color guard, and remarks and recognitions from Hodnett and Cassell.
This program will double as a meet and greet between students and their “adopted” veteran that they will continue to connect with throughout the school year.
