School can be stressful, and sometimes students say they need more than just a weekend to recover.
“Some days it’s not that I’m sick, I just feel mentally drained,” Violet Mills, junior, said. “It’s hard to focus when your mind feels overloaded.”
Students say that mental health is just as important as physical health.
“If I just had a cold, I would stay home and no one would think anything of it, but when I need a break for my mental health, it feels like I have to keep it secret,” Jakiyah Giggetts, senior, said.
“When your mind isn’t okay, your body feels it too,” Cole Estep, junior, said. “You can’t push through stress forever without breaking down.”
Students agree that taking care of their minds should be treated the same as taking care of their bodies.
“If the school wants students to succeed, they have to understand that mental health matters, too,” Eric Wilson, junior, said. “We can’t learn our best when we’re not feeling our best.”
“It’s kinda just like when you break a bone; everyone needs to understand people need time to heal, but when your mind needs a break, people think you’re being dramatic,” Allana Plummer, sophomore, said.
