For many students waking up early for school is the hardest part of their day.
“I feel like I’m half asleep during first period every morning,” Kervon Tolliver, junior, said. “No matter how early I go to bed, my body just isn’t ready to be awake.”
Some students believe starting school later could improve focus and energy.
“If school started maybe a hour later, I think I could pay more attention in class,” Alanna Plummer, sophomore, said. “I mainly just try not to fall asleep.”
“Starting later would help me actually stay awake and understand what the teacher is saying,” Linwood Crawley, senior, said.
“I feel like my brain doesn’t fully wake up until second period, but if school started later I think I’ll be more productive, Breanna Meadows, sophomore, said.
However, not everyone agrees that later start times would solve the problem.
“If school starts later, we’d just stay up later,” Marckayveon Martin, senior, said. “I don’t think it would change much for everyone.”
“I don’t think starting later would change how tired students are because people would just adjust their schedules,” Kara Fielder, freshman, said.
“Some students already struggle to get to school on time,” Madelyn Legge, junior, said. “Starting later might make that worse.”
