Students enjoy participating in a variety of hobbies after school.
“I like to do art because it allows me to be creative while also challenging myself,” Alyssa Abdelhadi, junior, said.
Others like to dance, go horseback riding, or post on social media.
“I like painting nails because I can do it at home, and it is so much easier than going to a salon,” Peyton Owen, junior, said. “I started doing nails because my mom said she was not going to pay for someone else to do them.”
Students love being able to express themselves and their creativity through their hobbies.
“Posting on social media allows me to channel my creativity,” Neal Barker, sophomore, said.
Students were inspired to start their hobbies to escape stress, because of relatives, and to save money.
“My dad inspired me to start doing art,” Abdelhadi said. “He gave me respect for it because my masculine dad was doing something like art.”
Having hobbies allows students to relieve stress and decompress after school.
“Dancing gives me time away from school, almost like a break,” Makenna Striker, junior, said. “It gets rid of the stress of deadlines and having to have things done by certain times.”
Relaxing hobbies are essential to maintaining a positive mindset in between school and work.
“My hobbies help me have a better headspace for when I do come to school,” Rebekah Appleton, junior, said.
Overall, students expressed a reliance on their hobbies in order to express creativity, relax, and to re-energize bodies and minds.
