Students often don’t get to know the faculty and counselors unless they have them.
A trusted faculty member is Mr. Neil Clarridge.
Clarridge is a substitute counselor here at CHS.
He graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in communications while playing Division I football. Clarridge earned another bachelor’s degree, this time in English, from Ohio State University.
He furthered his education one more step and received a master’s degree in counseling psychology.
He later was a teacher for eight years.
“I started teaching in 1989 at Langston Junior High School,” said Clarridge.”It was only 8th and 9th at the time so I taught freshman English.”
He also coached football for thirty-five years, baseball and wrestling for one year, and track for over 20 years.
“I started coaching football in 1983,” said Clarridge. “I took off a few years, but I loved coaching for all of those sports.”
His favorite part of his teaching career is the people that he encountered and had an influence on.
“I am a word man,” said Clarridge. “John 1:1-4. The love of the language and the people.”
The worst thing about his teaching career was the actual desk work.
“The paperwork and bureaucracy interfered with my mission of making people competent communicators.”
Clarridge continues to be a light in CHS.
