Movie theaters have lost some fans, but others still going.
“The atmosphere, lighting, and limited distractions in the theater enhance the viewing experience,” Neal Barker, sophomore, said.
Another student agreed.
“I would rather go to the movie theaters than stay at home to watch a movie because it’s an all around better experience,” Brandon Brooks, sophomore, said. “There’s a bigger screen, and you are surrounded by people, so it’s more fun.”
One student did not agree.
“I think that watching movies in theater affects the viewing experience in a negative way because you’re in public,” Emily Shelhorse, sophomore, said. “If I am at home watching the movie, then I can watch the movie in my pajamas, pause the movie when I need to, and I am not in public. Due to this, I would rather wait for a new movie to come out on a streaming platform than go see it in theaters right away.”
Some students think the movie theater is getting less popular.
“I love going to the movie theater, but I think that going is becoming less popular because more people are using streaming services,” Abigail Custer, junior, said. “I think people use streaming services instead of going to the theater because it’s easier access, and you could pay a monthly fee to see an unlimited amount of films rather than paying more to see one movie.”
Some students justify spending the money to see a movie in theaters.
“I justify spending the money to go the the theaters because it’s a great experience, especially if the movie is really good,” Peyton Owen, junior, said.
A student said something different.
“I just make my parents pay for me to go see a movie,” Brooks, said.
