Social Media can be viewed as both a helpful source and a distraction for students.
Most students agree it is beneficial.
“My favorite app right now is Apple Music,” Martayveon Younger, senior, said. “I use it everyday because it helps me mentally and physically and keeps me from crashing out. It benefits me and allows me to get more done while isolated. In my life, listening to music took place of the time that could’ve been used to communicate with people and help others, but in the end helped me learn to focus on myself.”
Others say that social media can sometimes distract students from more important tasks.
“Instagram is currently my favorite app,” Cole Barbour, senior, said. “I use it everyday, at different times considering my schedule is different throughout the week. I like that it distracts my mind from real issues in the world. I believe that all entertainment is a major disruption in our lives. Social media replaces time that could have been used intellectually, religiously, or physically. The world today needs a change.”
“I think Tik Tok is my favorite app,” Anaysia Redd, senior, said. “I use it every hour of the day. I feel like it distracts my mind from real issues, but is also just really entertaining and makes me happy. I’d say it distracts me more than benefits me though. I could definitely be doing something more productive like homework or anything school related.”
“If I had to choose my favorite app, I’d say Instagram,” Abby Aaron, sophomore, said. “I use it everyday throughout the day. It help me to take my mind from real problems and to relax. It doesn’t benefit me much because I could be doing other things like cleaning my room.”
