Students talk about saving for their future but often end up spending money somewhere else: food, clothing, and impulse purchases.
“I work at a fast food restaurant, I want to save $2,000 by the end of this year,” Anardia Harris, senior, said. “I find it difficult to save because I impulsively spend my money on unnecessary fast food and clothes,” Harris said.
Although some students find it hard to save their money it comes naturally to others.
“I work at Hardee’s; I set aside $150 every paycheck into my savings,” Jacobi Bradner, junior, said. “I think saving my money is easy because I don’t have responsibilities yet,” Bradner said.
While a large number of the student body have jobs, some don’t, making it more challenging for them to save.
“I do chores, but I don’t have a budget for myself,” Sydney Moss, senior, said. “Saving is hard for me because I don’t have a job, and I buy essentials, food, and cute drinks,” Moss said.
