As the first semester comes to a close, many students prepare to take their first semester exams before the last day of school, Dec. 19.
Exam Day One is Thurs., Dec. 18. First and second block exams will be held on this day in the morning.
On Fri., Dec. 19, third and fourth block exams will be administered. Students will be dismissed from school at 1 PM.
Students with an A average in the class or students that have passed the SOL for the class are exempt from the exam.
Students that are exempt from exams are not required to attend school on exam days, and they will not be counted absent.
If a student plans to check out early, they should do so at 9:50 AM or 11:27 AM, between exams.
Students that plan to check out should bring a note signed by a parent. Mrs. Elliott will take the notes only on Tues., Dec. 16, and Wed., Dec. 17.
Students will not exit through the main office.
There will be a sign-out sheet in the front lobby and students will exit out the front doors.
Many students have differing opinions on exams; some think exams should not be required.
“There is no point in taking exams especially if the class is an SOL class,” Sydney Ward, senior, said. “Even if the student fails the SOL they shouldn’t be required to take the exam.”
Others think exams should be required for those who do not have an A average.
“Not everyone should be exempt from exams because the people that have A’s and pass their SOLs earn the spot to not have to take them,” Ashley Gonzalez, senior, said.
