Chatham High’s Beta club recently went to the state Beta Convention.
Students and sponsors must plan intensely for this trip.
Students met with sponsors to decide on competitions and teams in October of 2025. Students met after school and on the weekends to create, practice, and pack for their respective activities.

Even with meticulous planning, some things cannot be fully completed in advance. The engineering team must pack a box full of supplies that can be used to accomplish whatever objective is given to them, but they will not know the task until they are at the convention center about to compete.
“I was very excited, but I was also very nervous because we still had major things to accomplish,” Mrs. Rachel Corwin, Beta sponsor, said.
After getting second place in Living Literature last year, this year Chatham Beta sought the champion prize. In this competition the club picked a scene from a novel that they then must recreate. The club chose to do the church scene for the book Outsiders.

“Show choir and Living Literature were the two competitions we were really trying our hardest to pull off,” Mrs. Amanda Riley, Beta sponsor, said.
This year was the first year that our Beta club has competed in show choir as well as the first time Chatham had a candidate for Virginia Beta state president.

Prior to leaving for the convention, the Beta club held a showcase night where they showcased their show choir performance and campaign skit, artwork that would be traveling to convention with them, and candidacy speech.
