Dog shelters are very popular places for volunteer workers.
There are many diverse positions that students can volunteer for.
“I was a French tutor in college; I was in the Young Honors Society at that time, and needed volunteer hours for the club,” Mrs. Sheri Williams, said. “People should spend more time volunteering because it helps you see through other people’s perspectives, and to be more compassionate.”
Some students spend their time volunteering at animal shelters.
“I used to spend a lot of time volunteering at animal shelters when I lived in North Carolina,” Amber Blevins, senior, said. “I gained a lot of experience in pet care. People should spend more time volunteering because it’s a fun experience and you learn new things.”
Interact club had a roadside clean-up they could volunteer in.
“I cleaned up trash on the side of the road,” Elena Eichinger, senior, said. “I learned a lot, like how to be safe on the side of the road. People should volunteer more cuz what else they got going on with their life.”
“I volunteered to help pick up litter on the side of the road,” Elizabeth Brooks, sophomore, said. “I enjoyed the experience, it was really eye-opening. People should volunteer to help keep the land clean, and to help out the community.”
JROTC collected toys for children.
“I volunteered in Project Santa Clause, collecting toys for kids,” Alex Hansen, senior, said. “I learned to have some patience with other people, and how to interact with them. Volunteer because it serves to experience doing something for other people instead of ourselves.”
Some people make volunteering a career.
“I do all kinds of volunteer work alongside the salvation army, the Chatham Rotary Club, and the school community,” Mrs. Allison Puckett, said. “I feel I have a stronger purpose by helping others. It helps me work on my communication and collaboration because I am working with people I wouldn’t normally work with. Volunteering definitely helps me feel better about how I spend my days. I don’t sit around doom scrolling. It helps me get out in my community and do meaningful work.”
