Seniors are wrapping up the last few months of their high school career and have turned their sites to college.
Approximately 61.1% of students actually finish college.
Some students do not want to be away from home and plan on attending a community college.
“I plan on attending DCC; I want to become a dental hygienist,” Anaysia Redd, said. ” At first I wanted to be really far from everyone I knew, but I recently realized that family is all I want to be around. I am nervous about losing motivation for college like I did throughout high school.”
“I plan on attending Danville Community College to get my associates degree then transfer to Averett after two years,” Ramia Gashan, said. ” I don’t think I want to go far because I will commute; I don’t wanna fail nor waste my time in college.”
Others plan on going to a four-year university right after they graduate high school, and they worry about their future success.
“I plan on going to Mary Baldwin University; I’m going to be a lawyer to help people who are not guilty,” Kajayla Giggetts, said. “I want to get away from people and prove that I could do anything. I want to be far but not too far from my mother nor my immediate family; I fear that I will not make friends and that college would be too stressful.”
“My plans are to attend Old Dominion University to get my bachelor’s degree; I want to become successful and finally live my dream life,” Quintavia Witherspoon, said. “I want to go three plus hours away, but I’m scared about failing and having an unsuccessful college experience.”
“I will be attending Virginia State University to get my masters degree in social work, to help kids and people in need,” Shara Clark, said. “I want to go two to three hours just in case of an emergency with my family. The only thing I’m worried about is getting distracted and failing.”
