Few things fire up students more than the rivalry between Chatham High and Dan River High.
“Whenever we play Dan River [in basketball], the whole school just feels louder,” Mason Adkins, junior, said. “It’s like everyones’ heartbeat speeds up.”
Players say the pressure pushes them to perform.
“You don’t want to be the one who lets your school down,” Amber Blevins, senior, said.
Coaches keep reminding students that the rivalry shouldn’t go too far.
“We want passion, not problems,” Coach Steven Williams said.
As both sides gear up for the next matchup, the energy is already buzzing and neither school plans on backing down.
