Bullying is intentional, harmful, and the cause of distress to others, whether through physical, verbal, or social actions.
“My definition of bullying is picking on someone about their clothes, looks, and race,” Ma’Khayiah Hairston, junior, said. “I feel like you should not let the bully get away with it. I feel like you should stand up for yourself more if you allow yourself to get bullied online. I’ve never been cyberbullied but if I was to be cyberbullied I would bully them back to show them how it feels.”
“I feel like bullying is going out your way to disrespect somebody who’s not bothering you about something they can’t help,” Naomi Davis, junior, said. “I don’t really see people being bullied here, but if I were to see it I would most likely try and stop it by taking up for that person. I’ve never been bullied, but if I was I’d go to my friends and family.”
“It’s constantly being mean to somebody,” Kennedee Coleman, sophomore, said. “I would be nice to people who feel like they’re less than others. I was never bullied, but if I was I would go to my parents and friends.”
Sometimes, bullying can be put into a different perspective.
“Bullying is belittling somebody to feel less than they are,” Adam Tate, computer teacher, said. “I try to make everyone feel welcome, and that I’m here to talk to. “I have been bullied before because a guy wanted my girlfriend. When I was bullied I didn’t go to anyone because I feel like we should sit back and realize words are just words.”
Cyberbullying is a different form of bullying.
“I feel like if you feel the need to bully somebody online and not even admit who you are, you’re childish, immature, and disrespectful because that sums up what cyberbullying is,” Davis said. “I’ve never been cyber bullied but if I was it would probably take a mental effect on me.”
“I feel like cyberbullying is wrong and harmful,” Coleman said. “I was never bullied, but I’m sure the people who were bullied took a serious mental and physical effect on them.”
“Cyberbullying is significant today as most bullying happens online. I haven’t been cyberbullied before but if I have I wouldn’t care because other opinions of me don’t matter,” Tate said.
