Students encounter pet peeves often.
“My top three pet peeves are when you’re late to class and the slowest walkers are right in front of you,” Olivia Smotherman, sophomore, said. “Also, someone being loud especially before a test or when you need to focus, and when people say I have an attitude when I don’t; then that gives me an attitude. I think others would agree with my pet peeves since they are pretty common I’d say. I come across them almost everyday. I handle slow walkers by walking around them, loud people by doing my best to drown them out, and the attitude one by ignoring the person talking to me.”
People who make noises while eating is a standard pet peeve among many.
“People who eat loudly, people with no sense of urgency, and slow walkers are my pet peeves,” Brooklynn Mayo, sophomore, said. “They are mostly things I’ve encountered at school, and I’m there a lot, so it gets annoying quick. I think people would agree with them because they are pretty common in my opinion. I come across them fairly often, I just try to ignore it and accept that sometimes I’ll have to deal with my peeves and it’s not the end of the world.”
“Chewing with your mouth open is my pet peeve, along with repeating yourself multiple times, and ads,” Nirvana Beame, junior, said. I don’t like the sound of chewing because I have sensory issues and overall it’s gross. I hate hearing the same thing over and over, and ads are just annoying and pointless. I think people would agree with me because it’s nasty to hear noises from chewing loudly, no one wants to hear someone say the same thing a bunch, and ads are useless: nobody likes them. I deal with my peeves at least a few times a week; I ask whoever is chewing with their mouth open to close it, tell the repetitive people to shut up, and wait for the ads to end.”
Other students have pet peeves not many tend to think about.
“When people say ‘I have to pee,’ people who use AI, and tiny dogs that are ravenous and spawns from the underworld are my pet peeves,” Neal Barker, sophomore, said. “I don’t want to know how you are using the bathroom; you’re lowering your intelligence with AI as well as killing the planet, and they [small dogs] always try to bite me. I don’t think people would understand the ‘I have to pee’ one but the word just disgusts me. I think most people in this generation wouldn’t agree on the AI one because they cannot comprehend the long term impact of AI, but I do believe that people would agree on the tiny dog one because a lot of people dislike rude animals especially pets. I deal with my peeves daily unfortunately; I either ignore or handle it in a rude manner.”
