The numbers of unhealthy mental health cases are on the rise.
Consequently, some students believe that personal days should be an excused absence as a boost to mental health.
Currently, most sick days require a doctor’s note; a mental health day can’t easily be covered with a doctor’s note.
“I think that taking a mental health day should be an excused absence because sometimes if I am having a bad day, going to school just makes it so much worse,” Abigail Wyatt, freshman, said. “Mental health is such a big part of everyone’s lives, and it is important that we take it seriously.”
“I believe that everyone, at some point in time, just needs a break, and a mental health day could be that,” Lyla Parris, freshman, said. “Everyone deals with some sort of struggle, some louder than others, and we just need to decompress.”
Mental health days would allow students to catch up on their rest, complete unfinished projects, and just chill.
“Having a mental health day could allow students to take time to just breathe,” Susannah Paris, freshman. said. “School is so stressful especially when students get bullied constantly and just want an escape.”
“School is five days a week for eight hours everyday, making it hard to have any time to do anything,” Emily Hankins, senior, said. “Also, school is a very draining part of our lives so a mental health day would give students time to reset and breathe.”
