SOLs are coming up in a few weeks, and students and staff are preparing.
“I have the history SOL coming up,” Aileen Gonzalez, freshman, said. “I’m slightly nervous about it, because I haven’t done any studying for it, but I do plan to get a good night’s rest the night before to be well rested and not feel tired during the test.”
“I’m scared for SOL’s; the only one I have to do is science, but I find that class boring,” Lauren Coleman, freshman, said. “I’ve been starting to prepare by doing the practice tests on SOL PASS. I learn acronyms to help remember stuff, and I do a lot of praying before.”
“I have to take a science and history SOL,” Madi Jarvis, a freshman, said. “I haven’t done any kind of studying, that’s why I feel like I’m gonna fail; also because I never pay attention in class.”
Many students have anticipatory anxiety but are trying to study more to feel better.
“I have to take the biology SOL,” Lindsey Ramirez, a sophomore, said. “I’m starting to feel nervous the closer the date gets, so I’m starting to study my notes for the class.”
“This semester I have to take the geometry and World History SOL,” Adrian Hernandez, a freshman, said. “I’m starting to feel in-between because the classes are easy, but I know the SOLs are going to be very hard. The teachers are gonna give us a review to help practice, and I am going to try to study if I remember.”
The administration has wise advice.
“The advice I tell students for their SOLs is just show up to class, pay attention, and participate,” Mr. Jason Ince, assistant principal, said. “That’s the best advice I can give.”
