Many students have dreamed about being a teacher at least once in their life.
“If I had to be a teacher for a day, I would want to teach math, because I find it easy,” Khloe Taylor, freshman, said. “I would like to teach high school because they are mature, and you can build a relationship with them. I will always make sure I treat my students with respect and kindness. My dream classroom features calm colors, and I would never use the big light. I wouldn’t want to have an assistant teacher, I would want to be on my own because I will have total control,” Taylor said.
“If I had to be a teacher for a day, I’d teach reading or literature,” Sara Carannante, freshman, said. “Reading has always been my way of escaping reality, and I would want to show my students the same. I would want to teach upper grades like eleventh and twelfth because they are more mature, and I would not have to watch their every move. I would treat my students equally and with full respect both ways. My classroom will be filled with light colors and have a fun and calm vibe overall. If I was teaching at the high school level, I wouldn’t want a teacher assistant because the students would be matured and if I needed help, they would help me.
Students seem to want to teach high schoolers over the younger kids.
“I would want to teach English because it’s my favorite subject in school,” Ani Zaher, junior, said. “I would probably want to teach high school because they already know the basics, and we would read a lot, and they’re more independent. My students will always be treated with kindness, respect, and grace. I want them to make sure they can always talk to me. I want my classroom to be filled with pastel colors, and I would put fairy lights around the ceiling. I don’t want to have an assistant teacher because I don’t like people inĀ my way when I’m trying to do things,” Zaher said.
“Math has always been my strongest subject, so I would love to teach it,” Izzy Hawker, senior, said. “I would like to teach first grade because I love little kids. I’d treat my students nicely, and my class would be fun. Led and fairy lights would go all around the ceiling of my classroom, and I’d never put the big light on and have little comfy seats like bean bags. I wouldn’t want to have an assistant teacher because I like to do things my own way, and they might judge,” Hawker said.
Many people would rather not have an assistant teacher.
“If I were a teacher for a day, I would want to teach English because I think it’s important to know your grammar and being able to read about different stories and points of views it also helps with future jobs,” Kaylee Tate, sophomore, said. “I would definitely want to teach high school because they’re honest and need to know the basics before they go out as adults in the real world, and need to be reminded about common sense. My students will always be treated with respect and understanding of their pov with mine, as long as they can respect me in the same way, I want to be fun and feel like they can talk to me and feel secure. I would like my classroom to have warm lights and positive posters with flowers. I wouldn’t say no if it was an option, but if I was alone, I would be okay with that too also if kids felt they needed someone who might help teach them better or help them understand, I’m always welcomed to that as well.
