Journalism allows students to have individual freedom and show their creativity.
“I started journalism because I knew people wrote stories in the class, and I was interested in it, ” Jaiden Lipford, senior, said. “If I am having a bad day, the freedom in this class makes it better because I can interview and talk with friends to take my mind off things. If I had to make one rule in the class it would be to make stories due Friday instead of Thursday. ”
“The reason I took this class is because I needed a sequential elective and I had taken journalism I my freshman year, ” MarKayla Mayo, junior, said. “My favorite part about this class so that I can leave the class to interview my peers. My Number One rule would be to leave school to sell ads during the second block of school. ”
“The reason I took journalism is because I love writing, ” Tensley Davis, freshman, said. “This class makes me feel better because I can walk around and be active instead of sitting in front of a computer all day. The one thing I’d change is to go into more classes for a different variety of answers. ”
” I took Journalism I as a sophomore because I wanted to learn more technical skills in writing, and I continued with Journalism II, ” Leah Oakes, junior, said.” This class makes my day better because I can finish up my work easily, and be more productive in my other classes. I would like it to be able to leave school to interview our Chatham community. ”
The task at hand is gathering quotes to show the many different opinions each student shares.
“To prepare for my story, I do the basics about who, what, when, where, and why, ” Lipford, said. “Then I think of detailed questions to add onto my not so detailed questions.”
“I like to brainstorm story ideas that I think will be interesting, Oakes, said.
“I start by planning my story out, interview, write the story, find a picture, then reread my story,” Mayo, said.
“When a new story is due I figure out my lead, then my 5 w’s then make my questions based off the 5 w’s, ” Davis, said.
