Students take pride in their hairstyles.
Some students look to social media for inspiration.
“My favorite style is two space buns,” Loren Witcher, a sophomore, said. “Two space buns are really easy and quick to do when in a rush. My first time doing space buns was on Valentine’s Day when I got my inspiration off of Pinterest. Space buns don’t cost a dime because they are natural hairstyles. Space buns usually last up to about a week with small touch ups. Space buns are my go to hairstyles when I don’t have my hair done because I can do them myself.”
Some students’ hairstyles make them feel good about themselves.
“Bohemian braids give me a boost of confidence,” JaBria Williams, a freshman, said. “Bohemian braids take four hours to do but they are worth the time. I’ve been getting Bohemian braids since I was 10 years old. My stylist charges only $95 with the braiding hair included. Bohemian braids are my favorite because they last longer and are easy to maintain. Bohemian braids make my days easier and smoother because I don’t have to worry about doing my hair.”
Many students like the style two strand-twists.
” Two strand-twists are my go-to,” Jaquan Barksdale, a sophomore, said . I like to style my natural hair in two-strand twists because it helps to grow my hair. They last up to four weeks and take two hours to do . My stylist charges $75, and it’s super affordable for the style. I’ve been getting my hair styled in two-strand twists since I was 11 years old. Two strand twists is a protective hairstyle that keeps my hair strong and healthy.”
“Two strand-twists is what I go to every time, ” Allana Plummer, a sophomore said . “Two strands last six months when I take care of it. Seeing my sister get the style really inspired me to start getting the same style. Two strand-twists are my favorite because they really bring out my facial features and keep a clean look. Getting them done costs about $65, which isn’t bad considering how long they last.”
Many students prefer to do their natural hair.
“I enjoy doing my natural hair,” Mia Popolo,” a freshman, said. My favorite style to do is spiral curls. I learned to curl my hair in the seventh grade. My hair takes about an hour to curl, and I use a curling iron at 450 degrees. Since my family doesn’t know how to do hair, I’ve learned so I can take care of the task myself.”
